So, about that book reviewing thing...

Yeah, about that... I have read several books since my last blog post but I cannot bring myself to write reviews!

See, I didn't love any of the books. I liked parts, and disliked parts, and overall my opinion has a certain amount of 'meh' to it. And every time I start to write a review, I find myself imagining how I'd feel, as an author, if I received the review I want to write, and I just can't do it. Authors need a thick skin, but I don't want to be the one that forces them to thicken up even more.

So. I think what I'll do is keep reading (yeah, right, like you could stop me :) and when I find a book that I adore I will post about it. Otherwise, I think the whole reviewing thing just doesn't work for me.

Writing, on the other hand, is working very nicely. I finished the first draft of what is being called Blueberry back in March, and then went on to plan out the next book (Cookie). I am now working on editing Blueberry, and will then write Cookie's first draft. This back-and-forth thing seems to work quite well for me, although it does involve a certain amount of whiplash at times. :)

I realized a few days ago that June 4th is the fifth anniversary of my completion of the first draft of "Life, Love, and a Polar Bear Tattoo". Those five years have just flown by. I have... counting... eight novels written in at least first draft. Three of those are no longer of interest to me (one a book written for the girls' volleyball team at my last teaching job and two books that prove I am not meant to write in third person) but still. Eight novels. Not bad!

I plan to share a few things I've learned in the last five years over the next few days. The first is: you can't be creative when you're tired. So I'm going to bed so I CAN be creative tomorrow. :)
