How do you decide to buy a book?

I'm curious. What makes you pick up a book?

I'd especially like to know what tips you over the edge when you're considering buying a book by someone you've never read before.

Cover? Blurbs? Online reviews? Gut feeling that you'll enjoy it?

I've been relying heavily on online reviews lately, particularly Goodreads reviews. I did start reading a book reviewed on a blog recently, but found I really didn't care for the book.

I don't know if this helps or not, but I use the cover, title, size of print, and the first paragraph to help me decide if a book is right for me or not. Recommendations also help. I've read and enjoyed books I would not have picked up because they were assigned in book clubs or recommended by people I trust.
